Google plans to build its first private Atlantic submarine cable: connecting the US and France

7/19/2018, it is reported that on Tuesday, local time, Google announced that it will build its first private transatlantic submarine cable between Virginia Beach and the French Atlantic coast.
The submarine cable is called “Dunant” and is expected to be operational by the end of 2020. This marks Google's twelfth submarine cable investment, but this is only the company's second private investment.
Google said: "Dunant has increased the capacity of the network across the Atlantic, complementing one of the busiest lines on the Internet and supporting the continued growth of Google Cloud. We are working with TE SubCom to design, manufacture and lay Dunant. Submarine cable, which will bring sufficient, high-bandwidth, low-latency, highly secure cloud connectivity between the United States and Europe."
Google said it will continue to invest in private and consortium submarine cables in the future. Earlier this year, the company announced its first fully independent investment to connect Currie with the new cable from Los Angeles and Chile.
The company's previously invested submarine cables include the Japan-Guam-Australian submarine cable system, the Havfrue submarine cable connecting the United States to Denmark and Ireland, and the Hong Kong-Guam submarine cable connecting Asia's major submarine communications hub.
